Developed and supported by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, the NL Office of the ATIPP Coordinator and Memorial's  Information Access and Privacy Protection Office, this year's conference is taking a “community based” approach to the development which will:

  • Improve overall content
  • Increase potential learning/professional development opportunities for participants
  • Increase networking opportunities, especially outside of one's current organization

January 28, 2010:

We are pleased to announce that the web site for "Newfoundland and Labrador Access & Privacy Workshop 2010" is now live and accepting registrations! Just go to http://www.verney.ca/nlapw2010. Please note that this year's event is on May 17 & 18, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Government Centre in St. John's, NL.

Developed and supported by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, the NL Office of the ATIPP Coordinator and Memorial's Information Access and Privacy Protection Office, this year's conference is taking a much different shape.

First and foremost, we are offering more content than last year; a day and a half worth of sessions for last year's price. Secondly, we would like to further involve the ATIP community in NL in the development of the content. This year, we are putting out a call for submissions. Please read the agenda page for details:

(http://www.verney.ca/nlapw2010/agenda.php)... but simply put, if you or someone in your organization has an Access & Privacy story to tell, we want to hear it.

Taking a “community based” approach to the development of this event will:

  • Improve overall content

  • Increase potential learning/professional development opportunities for participants

  • Increase networking opportunities, especially outside of one's current organization

  • Ensure events such as this remain financially accessible for participants

Through industry experts’ presentations and discussions of real life scenarios, a clearer vision of issues, methodologies, solutions and opportunities will be revealed. *The submission deadline for possible presentations is Friday, January 29, 2010.*

We look forward to seeing you in St. John's again for what will be this conference's most interesting year!

CAPAPA Spring 2009 Workshop Series Present:

St. John’s, NL, May 26, 2009 • 9:00AM to 4:00PM

Holiday Inn Government Centre

CAPAPA Member Discount Available

Two of the most challenging aspects of dealing with ATIPP legislation are How do we get 100% compliance? and How can we process ATIPP requests within the time frame allowed under the legislation?

On behalf of the Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators (CAPAPA), we are pleased to extend a very special opportunity for you to attend the Spring 2009 Workshop Series. Take advantage of this unique experience to learn new, usable, and practical skills.

Workshop Leader Eric Lawton (Manager in the Corporate Access and Privacy unit, City Clerks Office, City of Toronto) will present The Capability Maturity Model, a work planning tool for Access to Information and Privacy Managers.

The Capability Maturity Model will enable you to answer the tough questions such as, How can we improve our compliance? and When will the resources I've given you finally be "enough"?

This workshop marks the first time ever that an Access and Privacy CMM (AP-CMM) has been discussed by access and privacy professionals in detail.

In ATIPP – It's Everyone's Business, workshop Leader Renée Pendergast (Manager, Facilitator of Training, Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Office (ATIPP), NL Department of Justice) will provide you with a hands-on approach to processing ATIPP requests through the 30 day time frame allowed under the legislation.

The information you’ll receive during this workshop is vital to increase public confidence in your organization and to educate your organization on how to mitigate the risk of a potential information breach.

To register or for more workshop details, visit http://verney.ca/nlim2009/agenda_dynamic.php or contact Verney Conference Management, the company coordinating the event, at 613.226.8317 or by fax at 613.722.7725, and be sure to let them know that you are a CAPAPA member.
